Win a Nature Valley Prize Pack and Help Protect the National Parks!!!

???Since the dedication of Yellowstone as the world’s first national park in 1872, America’s parks have been visited by hundreds of millions of people who marveled at their beauty, found peace in their wildness and shared their experience with others.

However, these national treasures need care and support to help them flourish. Years of underfunding and environmental problems such as pollution are threatening our National Park system. To help preserve our national parks and ensure their existence for generations to come, join Nature Valley® and Patricia Shultz, internationally best-selling author of 1,000 Places to See Before You Die and travel industry leader, to help support the National Parks Project. This year, the National Parks Project will focus on restorative work at Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and Biscayne National Parks. Click here for more information on Nature Valley's National park Project.

To get involved, simply purchase a box of specially marked Nature Valley Bars and mail in your wrappers to the address below:

National Parks Project

Nature Valley will not only recycle the wrappers, but will also contribute $0.10 to the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) for every wrapper received (up to $600,000 in total). To learn more about the National Parks Project and how you can make a difference, check outPreservetheParks.com today. And don’t forget to visit Nature Valley on Facebook or Nature Valley on Twitter to “Like” or “Follow” the brand. Facebook fans can enter to win a trip, as well as share photos and videos of their summer vacations. All of these sites will also feature updates on the restoration projects, as well as videos and pictures from “National Parks Project” volunteers.

There are many other ways you can enjoy the natural beauty and diverse wildlife of our national parks this summer while supporting the cause. The easiest thing you can do to support the national parks is to experience them for yourself and share them with your family – remembering as always to “take only pictures and leave your footprints.” So grab your backpack, your boots and some granola bars and go soak in the scenery.

  1. There are so many great National Park moments. Okay, so on our honeymoon, we had planned to do some camping. Ended up deciding not to, so we drove west, leaving the gear behind. As we drove through Teddy Roosevelt National Park (in North Dakota), they were advertising that camping was free through May 15 or something like that. We started talking about that, and decided we were going to camp there on our way back.

So we picked up some things in Montana -- a couple camp blankets, a lantern, a canteen or two -- and we headed home.

We hiked into the park to camp, found a great spot, set up "camp" -- and ended up awake nearly all night. It got down to something like 30 degrees (29?) and we were out there with a couple of serapes and one wool blanket. It was COLD. As soon as the sun was up enough that we could see at all, we broke camp and headed back for the car. We dozed in the car, heater running full blast, for a couple of hours before heading home.

    What were we thinking????

  2. My favorite national park is Glacier National Park. I remember visiting when I was still a newlywed and my husband throwing a snowball at me--in July! ;) The mountains, the lake there, all of it is beautiful.

  5. Favorite Nat'l Park Moment heh? Hmms....
well the time we were driving thru the Shanandoah Nat'l Park (behind my BIL and SIL's car) and as we're winding thru the roads we stopped cuz we spotted this black, wiggly thing on the road....OK, it was a very large Llk. Rat Snake. So hubby stops and opens his door to just take a closer peak, and the thing just about jumped into his face in attack mode-after we all screamed-we laughed our buns off. That thing was in a nasty mood! The men of the group carefully guided the thing off the road to a safer local. I actually loved holding (briefly) the giant Blue Mt. Swallowtails there-so gorgeous, but it felt like I was holding a bird, they are that big!

  6. July 4th celebration at Mount Rushmore over 15 years ago. Met an old man who helped carve part of it. Jet Flyby, parachutists with the American flag, etc. Incredible. Also, was able to meet Jimmy Stewart who had come to Rapid City for a parade that same week.

  8. Hmm... favorite National Park moment. That's a hard one, but I'd have to say that watching my hubby and daughter's face as we arrived at the Grand Canyon was priceless. I had been there when I was younger, but it was their first time. I tried to explain that pictures just didn't do it justice. When they saw it for themselves, they understood.

While we were hiking through the park, we saw elk up close and personal. My daughter, being a huge animal lover, thought this was just "so cool".

It was a great trip even if there was snow on the ground. lol!

  12. Favorite National Park moment... Watching my first baby girl run over the hills at Valley Forge National park like I used to as a girl and taking pictures of us with the cannons like I used to. Having a picnic and running over the redoubts with her.

  17. In the town I grew up in, we had a park there. People could camp, hike, ride bikes and even get free spring water as long as they brought their own jugs. We went there often. There is no specific moment, just a lot of good memories!
